Project:Provenance

From Librarybase

Data on Librarybase should have provenance. This means if a fact is stated on Librarybase, the source of that fact should be stated. If the datum comes from a database, attribute to that database. If the value is derived through a process, described the process that occurred. If the source is dynamic and changes over time, try to attribute to a static copy of that resource, or at least provide an access date value so we know at what point you derived the information.

What we want to avoid is data from nowhere. If something is simply asserted to be true, with nothing to back it up, why would anyone believe it? This is the Internet, after all.

That said, certain facts are true on their face and don't require further attribution. References are not necessarily needed in this case.
